B2C:"Location, Location, Location" now includes  Internet Presence and Local Search.

B2B: "Filling All the Channels"  now includes Internet Presence and Local Search.

For your local business, Local Search is the process of optimizing  your website so it is found when someone uses a local search term (city/town). It  is comparable to having an prime brick and motar  "location, location, location".

This strategy is is not Paid Search Advertising (PPC).  It is rather getting your website a #1 ranking organically in the main search engines plus getting a maps listing on page 1.

1. Why consider local search optimization?

  • It is valuable to be ranked organically (positioned on the left side of the search results page)
  • Because --> 70% of people do not click on paid ads.

2. How Can I Do Local Search Optimization and how Valuable is it?

               Example: Car dealership
  •    "New Car " be a good local keyword for our dealership to optimize?  NO!
  •    "New Cars Los Angeles" BETTER but  is still a fairly broad keyword.
  •   " Volvo car dealer Los Angeles"  BEST
Because it is more descriptive of the dealership and the products they sell.

Estimated value of a #1 organic listing in search engines
A number one ranked website for the keyword Volvo Los Angeles could get get up to:
  •   456 click per day!
  •   13,680 clicks per month.
A PPC campaign with equivalent amount of clicks:
  •   Cost upward of $40,000 per month.

Fast Facts

Overall, online advertising will continue to outpace the U.S. ad market as a whole. Borrell says local online ad spending will gain 14% in 2011, to $51.9 billion from $45.6 billion this year. Targeted display advertising is expected to see a 60% increase to $10.9 billion overall.

According to a Nielsen study released August 1, 27% of all purchasers of smartphones in the past 6 months bought an Android phone, up from 17% in a poll from the year’s first quarter. The Android OS jumped to 14% of overall smartphone share, just behind Windows Mobile at 15%. Apple dropped from 27% to 23% of new smartphone sales, but kept its 28% second-place position in the total smartphone user base.

The report is probably most troubling for Blackberry, which while still first overall in total smartphone users and new sales, has seen a steady decline in its share of new purchasers, from 45% a year ago to 33% in the recent quarter. Only 42% of Blackberry owners say that they want to purchase a Blackberry next, with a full 50% leaning towards either an iPhone or Android.

Social media users 50 and older are now the fastest-growing demographic among Internet users, a recent Pew study showed.
